Jack W. Alber's Obituary
Stanwood Jack W. Alber, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. He was born May 14, 1927 in Big Rapids, the son of Glen and Melvina Alber. Jack attended Big Rapids High School and graduated with the class of 1945. He served in the Army, stationed in Europe, from 1945-1947. After leaving the Army, he returned to work for Hanchett Manufacturing in Big Rapids. Jack then worked in the oil fields from Michigan to West Virginia. Eventually he came back home and began working for the City of Big Rapids where he retired as the Superintendent of streets after 31 years of service to the city. Jacks interests included hunting, fishing, camping and farming. He was an avid reader and loved history. Jack is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of more than 64 years, Margaret (Cornell) Alber, two children, Gary (Jan) Alber and Debbie (Carl) Youngs, five grandchildren, Marla (Brian) Estes, Mindy (Paul) Eichenberg, Brian (Jennifer) Alber, Vickie (Sam) Eyde and Beckie (Paul) Cohen; six great grandchildren, Garrett and Madeleine Alber, Grant Ringler, Emilee Bryant and Max Cohen, his brother Frank Alber; two sisters, Connie (Tom Moore and Nancy Barnett; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Melvina Alber and his brother, Pat (Glen C.) Alber. Funeral services for Jack will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Mike Riegler officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to services. Interment will follow at Stanwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Jacks Honor to Hospice of Michigan
