James Patrick Granfield's Obituary
Big Rapids -James Patrick Granfield, 89, of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Patrick was born March 17, 1925, in Illinois, and graduated from St. Thomas High School in Rockford, IL, in 1942. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1948, in Indianapolis, Patrick married Alice R. Taylor. In 1950, he earned his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University. For over 35 years, he worked as a Claims Specialist for State Farm Insurance until his retirement. In 1967, he moved to Big Rapids, and was a member of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Catholic Parish. Patrick was also a very active champion for and member of Right-to-Life. Surviving are his wife Alice; 4 children, Leanne (Don) Fike of Kirkland, WA, James T. Granfield of Big Rapids, Milissa Granfield of Evart, and Terrence Granfield of Indianapolis, IN; and 8 grandchildren. Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Patrick's name may be made to Right-to-Life of Mecosta County, with envelopes available at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
