James W. Nostrant's Obituary
Big Rapids James W. Nostrant, 89, of Sun Prairie, WI, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the William W. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born October 31, 1918, in Remus, the son of Ed and Katherine (Meeker) Brown. During World War II, Jim answered his countrys call, and joined the U. S. Army. As a member of the Armys Ranger Unit, he was seriously wounded while fighting on Okinawa. While recovering in the army hospital, Jim met Ann Saliscente, and the couple was married on December 29, 1945. Following his discharge, they returned to Big Rapids, and Jim earned his A.A.S. Degree in Electronic Technology from Ferris Institute. For over 30 years, he was employed by the Admiral Corporation, mainly in Illinois. Upon retiring, the couple returned to the area and lived on the Muskegon River near Rogers Heights until moving to Sun Prairie in 2005. Jim had been a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Big Rapids, the Big Rapids Aerie Eagles #2535, and the VFW Post #4102. His wife Ann preceded him in death in 2006. Surviving are their children, James C. (Lynn) Nostrant of Stanwood, Pam Jewett of Plano, TX, Gloria OBrien of St. Augustine, FL, David (Lisa) Nostrant of St. George, UT, Shelia (Ray) Polacco of Rogers Heights, Ann (Jim) Robinson of Arcadia, and Kathleen (Bart) OShea of Sun Prairie, WI; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a sister Katherine Rolston of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother Ed and a sister Genevieve. . Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Deacon Philip Kilkenney officiating. Memorial contributions for the American Diabetes Association may be left at the funeral home, where Jims family will greet friends on Thursday, April 24, from 5-8 p.m., and prior to services on Friday.
