James Tribe's Obituary
Big Rapids - James Thomas Tribe, 63, of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at Mercy Health St. Mary's Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born October 22, 1949, in Big Rapids, the son of Thomas and Ruth (Dare) Tribe, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1968. Jim then served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he returned home, and on June 26, 1971, he married Donna Tice. Jim worked for Big Rapids Public Schools as a bus driver and a custodian until ill health forced his retirement. He also served for 15 years in the Michigan National Guard, and was a member of the V.F.W. An active outdoorsman, he was a life member of the North American Hunting Club, and a former member of the Mecosta County Rod & Gun Club. Jim loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended the Big Rapids Free Methodist Church, and was a very caring person who was willing to help at any time. Jim is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Dawn (Scott) Harmon of Big Rapids; son Joe (Becky) Tribe of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Trevor, Zachary, Megan, Tim, Daniel, Jared, Hannah, and Sarah; his brother Lyman (Nora) Tribe of Big Rapids; his sister Ruth Smith of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Louise Cass and Flora Belle Wilcox. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Ted Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the South Grant Center Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Big Rapids American Legion Post #98 and AmVets Post #1941. Jim's family will greet friends at the funeral home today (Wednesday) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and prior to services on Thursday.
