Jane Agnes Eldred's Obituary
Jane Agnes Eldred passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023 at the age of 87. Jane was born to Richard and Agnes Helms in Lakeview, MI on July 16, 1936. She and her twin sister were numbers 12 & 13, the youngest two of a bustling farm family. In fact, they were the youngest set of three twins in the family, making for a lively upbringing and a unique closeness among the siblings. As a youth, Jane enjoyed all sorts of activities with the crew of relatives, but loved the sport of softball best of all.
Jane married Laverne Eldred on December 21, 1954, ready to ring in 1955 as a married woman. Together they ran their own farm and she flourished in her role as a wife and homemaker with the skills she learned as a young girl. Jane bore five children to the union raising them with the goodness found in rural farming communities.
Jane enjoyed and often excelled at many home crafts such as quilting, sewing, knitting, and especially baking her delicious homemade bread, the smells never failing to summon her family to the table. Despite her wide variety of chores and hobbies, she always found special time to spend with her children and devote volunteer hours in her farming and church communities.
Being the youngest of such a large family, Jane experienced both great joy and great losses as she survived not only her parents, but all of her siblings, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, beloved son, Gary and husband Laverne, leaving her a widow.
Jane leaves behind four children, Brian (Alicia) Eldred, Darrel (Bev) Eldred, Bruce (Mary) Eldred, and Carolyn (Lenny) Sorsen; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren with one arriving soon, and two great-great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and one daughter-in-law, Kay Thompson to carry on her legacy.
The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the quality staff at Margaret’s Meadows and Careline Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at the Janowicz Family Funeral home on Saturday, November 25th officiated by Reverend Eldon Eldred. Visitation will be the same day from 9am to 11am. Those wishing, may direct memorial donations to Commission on Aging or Careline Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
