Jay Leighton Chapman's Obituary
Jay Leighton Chapman age 90 of Remus passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at the Chippewa Hills Baptist Church in Remus. Pastor Chuck Richardson will officiate with burial to follow at Wambolt Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Hansen Janowicz Funeral Home in Remus from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday and from 10:00 AM to the time of Service on Saturday at the church.
Jay was born March 16, 1924, the son of Marion and Inez (Marsh) Chapman. Aside from farming, which he lived and breathed, Jay was also the Wheatland Twp. Supervisor as well as Mecosta County Commissioner for a period of time. He spent Several years on the Central Michigan Mental Health Facilities Board, the County Fair Board and was a member of the Mecosta County Park Commission. He was a mentor to numerous friends and relatives over the years, and always “told it like it was”, even if they didn’t want to hear what he had to say. Jay was as solid as a rock, and the anchor for his family. They always knew his dedication to them through both his words and actions.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Ruth; sons, James (Kimberly) Chapman and Leighton (Ardyce) Chapman; grandchildren, Timothy J. ( Melissa) Chapman, and Lynn (Nate) Wernette, and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Madison, and Macy Chapman, and Brooklynn Wernette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Menzo Chapman, Jeanette Gregg, and Elanor Miller, and a granddaughter, Leigh Chapman.
