Jay Franklin Prestia's Obituary
Lakeview-Jay Franklin Prestia, age 65 of Howard City, passed away at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital on November 10, 2019. Jay was born October 14, 1954 in Ellwood City, Pa. to Joseph Franklin and Patricia Alice (Dawson) Prestia and was later adopted by Guy Prestia. Jay was raised in Ellwood City and Riverside Pennsylvania and graduated from Riverside High School in 1972. He continued his education at Grand Rapids Community College and truck driving school. Jay enlisted in the Army National Guard on August 8, 1983 and was honorably discharged on March 26, 1984.
Jay met his wife Elizabeth "Liz" through acquaintances and were married on July 30, 1977 at Park Gate Baptist Church in Ellwood City. Jay spent most of his adult life working in various factories including Klein Tools for 9 years, Wolverine for 9 years and Blanax for 12 years. He retired in 2016 at age 61. Jays hobbies included hunting, gardening and being outdoors. He loved his dogs, Misty, Cloud and new puppy Storm. Jay loved his family and always enjoyed making them laugh, he would do anything for anybody. He was known as loving and loyal. Jay's nickname given by his family was "Dog Whisperer".
Jay will be missed by his wife Elizabeth Prestia, brothers Larry Montgomery of New Mexico, Ed (Connie) Prestia of South Carolina, Bill Prestia of Howard City, Ron Prestia of Howard City, Guy (Sandy) Prestia of Maine; sisters Patty Partington of Pennsylvania and Janie (Jerry) Chambers of New Mexico; numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Joseph Franklin Dawson; his mother Patricia Prestia; parents-in-law Lydia and Herman Simmons; and sister-in-law Linda Prestia.
A luncheon will be held for Jay at the Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview on Saturday November 16, 2019 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to Elizbeth Prestia.
