Jean Elizabeth Nienhuis' Obituary
Lakeview-Jean Elizabeth Nienhuis, age 97, of Lakeview passed away at Bell Tower Estate, which had become her home, on Monday, March 31, 2025. She was born on April 11, 1927, to Leo and Bessie (Farnsworth) Youngman in Lakeview where she resided her whole life. Jean graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1945. She married Alfred "Al" Nienhuis on July 21, 1951, taking on the role of wife and mother while raising their three children. Jean was an active lifelong member of the Lakeview United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the Women's Fellowship. She also volunteered her time being both a Cub Scout Den Mother and Brownies Leader. In 1985, together Jean and Al founded the award-winning Community First Federal Credit Union in Lakeview. She enjoyed sailing, camping and riding her bicycle.Jean is survived by her children, Dr. Marc Nienhuis of Kawkawlin, Phillip (Sharon) Nienhuis of Hudsonville and Beth (Steven) Poll of Cutlerville; nine grandchildren: Alex, Sarah, Suzanne, Stephanie, Nathan, Matthew, Anna, Jan and Eric; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Al; parents, Leo and Bessie; brother, NH Youngman.A celebration of Jean's life will be held at 12:00 on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Lakeview United Church of Christ with Pastor Dave England officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow.Donations in Jean's memory can be made to the Lakeview United Church of Christ.
