Jeannette M. Grunst's Obituary
Big Rapids - Jeannette M. Grunst, 86, of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Metron of Big Rapids. She was born July 5, 1927, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Marvin and Clara (Kienitz) West, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1945. On December 6, 1952, Jeannette married John R. Grunst, who preceded her in death in 1998. For over 50 years, Jeannette was the bookkeeper for the family business, Grunst Brothers Sports Center in Big Rapids. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary as well as the AmVets Auxiliary. Jeannette loved to hunt and fish. Jeannette is survived by her children, Pam Mattzela, Bob (Mindy) Grunst, and Jana Farrier, all of Big Rapids; grandchildren Kellie (Brian) Atton, Kerrie (Chad) Currie, Ryan (Stacey) Adams, Nate (Heather) Adams, Brandon Adams, Joe (Shelby) Powley, Collin Grunst, Eric Powley, and Julie Farrier; eight great grandchildren; her sister Dorothy West of Big Rapids; sister-in-law Hertha Grunst of Big Rapids; her aunt, Marion Kienitz of Reed City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jeanette was preceded in death by her son Tom; three brothers Bob West, Marvin "Tuff" West, and Marold "Skin" West; and a sister, Marjorie Van Auken. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the St. Peter's Church Organ Fund may be left in care of the Mohnke Funeral Home, where Jeannette's family will greet friends on Sunday from 2-6 p.m., and at the church prior to services on Monday.
