Jerry George Ward's Obituary
? Big Rapids Jerry G.Ward, 86, of Big Rapids passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. He was born in Grand Rapids on August 16, 1924 to Walter and Margaret Weldon then was adopted by Clarence and Mable Ward. Jerry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances and four children; Kathy (Ed) Straley, Joe (Muggs) Ward, Beth (Art) Ranger and John (Janette) Ward, eight grandchildren; Leslie, Patrick, Emily, Laura, Molly, Elizabeth, Charlie and Sam, plus four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jack and sister Bette Cuthbertson. Jerry graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1942 and Ferris Institute School of Pharmacy in 1952. He served in the United States Army First Cavalry, Fifth Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Jerry served on the Big Rapids Township Board of Review, Mecosta County Fair Board, and was a member of the Michigan Harness Horsemens Association and the USTA. He started the pharmacy at the Big Rapids Community Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 1986. In retirement he was co-owner of The Sole shoe store in downtown Big Rapids. A memorial service will be held at St. Peters Lutheran Church with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Jerrys family will greet friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of ones choice.
