Jimmie Alvin Hancock's Obituary
Jimmie Alvin Hancock, age 66, died February 23, 2023, at the family home in Cedar Lake, surrounded by family. He was born July 16, 1956, in Greenville, the youngest son of Derial and Hazel Hancock. He grew up in Stanton, Michigan and attended Central Montcalm High school. He married Diane Audrey Ball on January 29, 1977. Together they raised two children. Karrie Lynn born on August 15,1977, and Chad Michael born on August 22, 1979. Jim was an Auto Mechanic by trade and fixed cars all over Montcalm County. The last few years he worked with his son at the family business Hancock Discount Auto, a longtime dream for him and Chad. Jim's other love was playing Rock and Roll. He loved playing with his band, all over Michigan. His band OMT even put out a C.D. of originals, which he was very proud of. He also had a great love for camping and spending time with family. His favorite place to camp was at Cannon Creek in Kalkaska. He loved camping there as a child and made sure his children and grandchildren loved it too.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Derial and Hazel Hancock; his wife, of 44 years, Diane Audrey Hancock; 2 brothers, Irwin "Butch" Hancock and Kenneth Derial Hancock; a niece, Shelly Hancock; a nephew, Jerry Hancock; father and mother in-law, Richard and Lorna Ball; and his companion right to the end, his dog, Maggie Mae Hancock.He is survived by a daughter, Karrie (Bob) Cross; a son, Chad (Jackie) Hancock; grandchildren, Zack and Jorden Groce, Alexis Cross, Hunter Slaughter, Ashly Hancock, James Hancock, and Calvin and Melissa Cross; siblings, Robert (Diana) Hancock, Bonnie (A.J.) Blonk, Judy Godfrey; and sister-in-law, Kathy Hancock.Jim's wish was to have his family care for him, Jorden Groce and Jackie Hancock both played a big role in that care. Due to the kind of care he received, the family was able to keep him at home and not in the hospital. The rest of the family cannot thank them enough. In accordance with his wishes there will be no funeral. The family will have a memorial dinner on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 2:00PM.
