Joanne Ellen Dew's Obituary
Big Rapids- Joanne Ellen Dew, 83, of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at Evergreen Terrace where she had lived since 2010. She was born on October 29, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Herbert and Mildred (VanAvery) Burmeister. Joanne had been employed and retired from the MOISD. Following retirement she earned a Master's Degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University. She was a member of the governing board and served on several committees at the United Church of Big Rapids. Joanne was a cancer survivor and was active in the annual Relay for Life. She was also an active member of the American Association of University Women, Artworks, and Stage M. Joanne was an avid supporter of Bulldog Hockey. She is survived by two sons, Ross Dew of Grand Rapids and Todd (Sara) Dew of Reed City; one grandson, Reese; two brothers, William (Nancy) Burmeister of Big Rapids and Robert (Marie) Burmeister of Westland, Michigan. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Rex. A celebration of Joanne's life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 6 at the United Church of Big Rapids. Her family will greet friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Private interment will be Wednesday at Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Big Rapids.
