John Clemens Marcinkewciz's Obituary
Big Rapids - John C. Marcinkewciz, 53, of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 29, 2023, at his home on Rogers Pond.
He was born November 29, 1969, in Detroit, the son of Tony and Carolyn (Rice) Marcinkewciz, and the family moved to Big Rapids in 1976. John attended St. Peter's Lutheran School, and he graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1988. He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Ferris State University, where he also played on the football team as a freshman.
John was a part owner of Universal Rent-to-Own, and operator of Universal Rent It All. He enjoyed his motorcycle, and was a member of the Harley Crew. John was an avid supporter of FSU Football, and also liked to watch NFL games. He had a heart for giving, and helping those in need. These three words help sum up John's life: 'Prickly, generous, driven'.
John is survived by his two sons, Tony and Tyler Marcinkewciz; his significant other Shelley Waldron; his mother Carolyn; sister-in-law Debra Marcinkewciz; niece Gwen and nephew Evan Marcinkewciz; his aunts, June Bloom and Janice Montague; and his uncle Jack Rice. He was preceded in death by his father Tony in 1988, and his brother Erick in 2018.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Pastor Tyson Benz officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart. John's family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to establish a scholarship fund in his name through Ferris State Football.
