Joseph A. Mishler's Obituary
Big Rapids Joseph A. Mishler, 84, of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, April 4, at his residence. He was born March 14, 1924, in Bellevue, MI, the son of John and Edna (Sobotta) Mishler, and moved to Big Rapids as a child where he has lived since. During World War II, Joe served with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division in the Aleutians and North Italy. Following his discharge, he returned to Big Rapids, where for 30 years he owned and operated Mishlers Furniture Shop. For several years, Joe also worked at Hanchetts Manufacturing and Carter Food Center. He was a member of the Big Rapids American Legion Post #98, and the VFW Post #4102. On June 6, 1946, he married Margaret K. Yost, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Joseph (Linda) of Holly, James (Kathryn) of Clare, John (Nanette) of Owosso; 2 daughters, Mary Louise Bechtel of Henderson, NV, Kathleen (David) Bouwman of Big Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Margaret Schoenberg and Annabelle Yost, both of Big Rapids, and Marilyn (Herbert) Zinser of DeWitt; 1 brother Darwin (Marie) of Paris; a sister-in-law Yvonne Mishler of Big Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Christopher Jon Mishler, a sister Ruth Ernest, and a brother Donald. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Burial will follow in the St. Anns Cemetery in Paris, with military services under the auspices of the AmVets Post #1941. Memorial contributions for the Big Rapids High School Athletic Program may be left at the funeral home, where Joes family will greet friends today (Monday) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and prior to services on Tuesday.
