Joseph Raymond Stilson's Obituary
Morley Joseph Raymond Stilson, 86, of Morley went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 7, 1924 in Stanwood, Michigan, the son of William and Erma (Morse) Stilson. Joe is survived by Irene, his wife of 64 years. Togetherthey had six sons, William James(Jackie) of Morley, Robert Stephen (Rachel) of West Liberty, Kentucky, Gerald "Jerry" Walter-deceased (Lorraine), Michael Joseph (Dianne) of Morley, John David (Terry) of Morley, Patrick Allen (Dagmar) of Morley; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren soon to be fifteen. Also, surviving are many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Gerald "Jerry" Walter Stilson; a great grandson, Ross Michael Trousen; two six brothers, foursisters and his good fishing buddy Mr. Carol Stout. Joe served in the United States Navy as a hospitalman second class in the South Pacific during World War II. He was the last charter member of the Knox-Helms Post 554 American Legion, NRA and the National Trappers Association. Joe owned and operated Joe Stilson Cement Contracting from 1968-1984. He attended the Green Country Church. Joe was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastors Roger Cooper and Philip Bongard officiating. Joes family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be at Aetna Cemetery in Morley. A luncheon which will be provided by Green Country Church will follow at the American Legion in Morley. Memorial contributions may be made to In House Hospice or Green Country Church. Joes family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Fran and Kristy of Mecosta County Health Care also to Sharon and Debbie of In House Hospice plus to so many others for their care and kindness.
