Joseph Charley Wing's Obituary
Joseph Charley Wing, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Johns on Saturday, December 14, 2024, with his daughter Lisa and caretaker, Jackie by his side. He was born on March 4, 1932, to Adolphus and Estella (Brecht) Wing. Joseph was raised in the Sumner area, and attended Alma High school, graduating with the Class of 1951. He continued his education at Michigan State University in the agricultural program. On October 24, 1953, Joseph married the love of his life, Irene Beck, with whom he spent the next 68 years. From 1955-1957 he served in the US Army at Ft. Riley Kansas. Joseph spent his life as a dairy farmer, before retiring in 1996. He was a member of both the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge in Lansing, and the Elks Club while in Florida. He and Irene spent winters in Zephyrhills, where they had many friends. He enjoyed dancing, playing horseshoes, fishing, spending time outdoors, and gardening. Joseph will be missed by his children, Scott (Carolyn) Wing of St. Louis, Jeffrey (Jill) Wing of St. Johns, Randy (Leah) Wing of Newport, AK, Lisa (David) Wilson of St. Johns; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene; son, Rodney; parents, Adolphus and Estella; brothers, Francis, Walter, Leo, Donald, Fred, Carl, Ernest, David; sisters, Mary, Hazel and Alice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Lowe Global Methodist Church, 5485 Lowe Rd., St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will greet friends from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Lowe Cemetery.
