Joyce Dawn Jacobs' Obituary
Big Rapids - Joyce Jacobs, 89, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022, surrounded by loving family members.
She was born on March 12, 1933, the daughter of Michael and Josephine (Detzler) Evans, in West Branch, MI, and graduated from Flint Northern in 1950. Also in 1950, Joyce was the Flint Peach Queen. She received a degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1951 and was an English teacher in the Flint area.
In 1952, Joyce married the love of her life, Bruce W. Jacobs, and they started their family together. Since 1973, she happily resided in Big Rapids, and everyone that knew Joyce immediately became an extended part of her family. She loved when people came by the house, and she would share advice and stories 'of the good old days' with them. Joyce had a passion for children and helped mentor many mothers in how to handle issues of childhood development. She took great pride in her family and always expressed how important her family was to her. Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren and cherished family gatherings.
Joyce is survived by her children, Sue (Greg) Straley, Vicki Jacobs, Michael (Katie) Jacobs, Patrick (Cindy) Jacobs, Mark (Colleen) Jacobs, Joni (Patrick Best) Lintemuth, Matthew (Tracey) Jacobs, and Timothy ( Mary) Jacobs; 23 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; her sister Janice (Bob) Bombe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce W. Jacobs, her son Bruce W. Jacobs Jr, as well as her parents and brother James Evans.
A Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Ron Witbeck officiating. Joyce's family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 29th, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name to a charity of your choice.
