Joyce Marie Mizga's Obituary
Lakeview-Joyce Marie Mizga, age 102, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Masonic Pathways in Alma. She was born to Henry and Beulah (Potter) Swender on August 29, 1919, in Ovid, Michigan. Joyce attended Laingsburg schools and graduated in 1936. Almost two years later in Saint Johns on Christmas Eve "during the middle of a snowstorm", Joyce married her husband, Albert. Joyce and Albert owned the Lakeview Sales and Service Ford Mercury dealership in Lakeview for 25 years. After her job as bookkeeper for her husband she worked as a nurse aid at the Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview and later retired in 1980.
Joyce was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the United Church of Christ. She loved being a wife and mother, reading, cooking, and was an excellent baker. She raised four strong children, nine grandkids and was able to hold all her great-grandchildren. Her door was always open, ready to host family or friends of all ages for holidays or a meal. She leaves us with great memories and the knowledge that a life well lived is one spent with your family.
Joyce is survived by her children, Ann (Edward) Weckwert of Murfreesboro, TN, Maureen (Marvin) Jaquays of Coral, Gary (Candace) Mizga of Canadian Lakes, Janis (Michael) Jensen of Greenville; grandchildren, Ed (Kristy) Weckwert, Kristin (Sean) Morrison, Brian (Beth) Jaquays, Robin (Brandon) Town, Kammy (Garry) Ostrander, Cory (Marissa) Mizga, Heather Jensen, Shannon (Jim) Davis, Amber Jensen; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Riley, Jake, Jeb, Lauren, Dan, Kendall, Parker, Nic (Tara), Candace, Wyatt, Gabriella, Jackson, Ryan (Paige), Cory, Kelsea (Cole), Hunter, and Hudson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert who passed away in 1998; her parents; 2 brothers, Lee and Charles Swender; and sister, Carol Bush.
A private graveside memorial service will take place at a later date.
Those wishing to donate in Joyce's memory are asked to consider the United Church of Christ in Lakeview.
