Judy Burkett's Obituary
Sears - Judy Kay Burkett, 72, of Sears, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at her residence. She was born September 5, 1944, in Woodville, the daughter of Earl and Lois (Deacon) Vaughn, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1962. Judy worked several local jobs, including Wolverine World Wide for 10 years, Dairy Queen for two years, and more recently retiring from Ferris State University after 25 years. Judy was always a fun-loving friend with a laugh that everyone loved. She loved her family very much, as well as her dogs Bullet and Molly, and her many friends. She enjoyed her hobbies in woodworking and ceramics. Judy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Glen Burkett; her daughters, Sherry (James) Higley of Stanwood, and Shelly (Michael) Newcombe of Rodney; two grandsons, Jesse Ratliff of Arizona and Sean (Morgan) Higley of Cedar Springs; her great-grandson Jayden Higley; step-grandchildren Amber Loomis, Nicholas and Jeremy Newcombe. She is also survived by her sisters Doris (Darrell) Aldrich of Big Rapids, and Janet (Charles) Wright of Texas; one brother, Wayne (Sherrie) Vaughn of Big Rapids; and several other great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bonnie Jack and Betty Grzesikowski; and three brothers, Jack, Robert and Dale Vaughn. Memorial services for Judy will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with her nephew, Tim McShane officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in the Goodwell Township Cemetery. Her family will greet friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
