Julia was born in Mecosta on April 24, 1926, the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Jehnzen) Adams. She married the love of her life, William on September 21, 1946 and together the two grew their family to include three children. Words used to describe Julia were caring, independent and strong willed, a matriarch of the family. She was known to give the “look” that let you know when you were in trouble when needed. She loved auctions and yard sales so much, she would pack a lunch for her and her family so they could continue to shop all day. One of the many lessons she taught her grandchildren was to never pay full price for yard sale items. Another was how to bake homemade bread without measuring cups or spoons, just a pinch of this and a dash of that. Julia loved to fish, mushroom hunt, and quilt, but most of all loved family gatherings and time with great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sandra (William) Engelman; five brothers, Jack (Virginia), Lyle (Glenna), Stanley (Rosanne), Gene (Judy) and Fred (Jeanette) Adams; one sister, Janie (Tom) Gorham; six grandchildren, Paula Engelman, Pamela (Pat) Ross, Joseph (Jessica) Lehnert and James Lehnert; nine great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Joseph in 1972; daughter, Carla Lehnert; three brothers, Carl Jr., William and Ralph Adams and one sister, Vivian.
Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, a charity of choice or to the family.
