The memory I would like to share is our first vacation together. I was somewhat of an outsider in this group of four. Chas, Moe and Kathy had known each other for years; living near each other, attending the same schools, and of course sports, tied them together.
I could have felt somewhat like the, "odd man out". Not in this group! The fun started right away and there was never a question of acceptance. That was a relief!
Kathy and Moe and Chas and I rented a cabin at Pleasant Lake. It came with a large pontoon boat. This seemed to be an opportunity to develop our fishing skills. As I recall, we probably caught more than 100 little perch and bluegills. We decided to keep them and have them for dinner.
Our first problem was that none of us had fish cleaning experience. I had spent a number of years during my childhood watching my dad clean "our keepers" which were substantially larger than the Pleasant Lake catch. Throughout those years I had successfully avoided ever touching fish guts. Needless to say, there was much laughter that day and small morsels of fish on our plates.
Pleasant Lake also provided time for card playing, guys against the girls of course, and much more laughter. We played Cannasta. According to the guys, the girls always froze the pile and then we won!
As I look back over the years it is clear to me that I have never had more fun or more laughter with anyone in my lifetime. They will be missed.
