Keith A. Ross' Obituary
Big Rapids - Keith A. Ross, 89, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Mecosta County Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1922, near Hersey, the son of Alger and Ethel (Peepers) Ross. Keith attended the McKay Elementary School, and graduated from the Hersey High School. During World War II, he served with the U.S Army in Germany as a mail clerk. Following his discharge, Keith worked in Lansing and then Muskegon. In August of 1952, he came to work for the City of Big Rapids, serving as the head of maintenance for the water department until retiring in 1982. Keith was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, as well as a member of the Big Rapids American Legion Post #98. He enjoyed his flowers and his backyard, and liked to play cards also. On December 31, 1952, he married Elaine Freiberg, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Steven (Kay) of Lansing, Michael (Tiffany) of Grand Rapids, Douglas (Christine) of Cincinnati, OH; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca, Matt, Thomas Keith, and Libby; his twin brother Kent Ross of Millington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Stuart, Winton, and Robert, and a sister Betty Thiel. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for a charity of choice may be left at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where Keith's family will greet friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and at the church after 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
