Kenneth A. Anderson's Obituary
Big Rapids - Kenneth A. Anderson, age 86, of Big Rapids died on December 28, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 25, 1927 near Rodney, the son of George and Emma Anderson. Kenneth was the youngest of eight children and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Inez, Harry, Leroy, Grace, Evelyn, Walter and an infant brother. Also preceding him in death were a brother-in-law, Duane Johnson and brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Marion Jefts. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gloria (Jefts) Anderson, two sons, Gary (Patricia) Anderson, and Terry (Kay) Anderson, two daughters, Mary (Theodore) Tett and Julie Anderson, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Shirley (Jefts) Johnson. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Colfax Township. He graduated from Mecosta Remus Agricultural Schools and served in the United States Marines from 1945-47. After discharge from the service he started his work career in the oil fields for Top Taggart. He then worked for Rosander Chevrolet where he was service manager for 9 years. In 1957 he began work at Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline. During his 32 year career, he started as a field operator and retired as Superintendent of Austin Gas Field, (now ANR) For many years after retirement he was a volunteer driver for Mecosta County Commission on Aging. Kenneth was proud of his home and farm. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and fixing anything that needed repair. Sports was a favorite pastime. He was a loyal lifetime fan of University of Michigan and the Detroit Tigers. Kenneth was inducted into the Mecosta County Sports Hall of Fame for his pitching accomplishments as a young man. Throughout his extended illness he was strong willed and determined to beat all odds. He always spoke highly of his healthcare personnel and never complained about having to endure a chronic condition. He appreciated all those who were involved with his care over the years. His family would like to thank the staff at Mecosta County Medical Center (Spectrum), Mecosta County Home Health Care, Hospice of Michigan and especially Dr.Scott Vanderhill Dr. Rafat Rizk of the U of M Health System. He suffered patiently and long, his hope was bright and strong. His weary hours and days of pain; His troubled nights are past; and in our aching hearts we know, He has found sweet peace at last. Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Big Rapids First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7p.m. at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or to Michigan Blood Bank.
