Kenneth Lee Hoaglin Sr. "Big Ken"'s Obituary
Kenneth Lee Hoaglin Sr. "Big Ken", age 77, of Lakeview (formerly of Sparta), passed away Saturday, September 05, 2015, at his home with family by his side. Kenneth was born on June 9, 1938 in Sparta, the son of John Ernest and Kathryn Lavina (Lanning) Hoaglin. He was raised in Sparta and attended Sparta High School. Kenneth served his country with the Marines from 1956 until 1957 and then on August 9, 1958, Kenneth married Nancy May Calkins in Kent County. Kenneth was self employed for over 40 years as a truck driver. He enjoyed football, NASCAR, and especially cruising with Ernie (his best friend and faithful dog). Kenneth had a lot of friends and was well loved by many people. His family was very important to him.
Kenneth will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years Nancy May Hoaglin; six children Marlene (Brian) Woodard of Rockford, Kathy (Greg) Mason of Morley, Kenneth Jr. (Peggy) Hoaglin, Julie (Bud) Manley, Rebecca (Shad) Lockwood, and Eric Hoaglin all of Lakeview; special nieces Raenelle (Corey), and Leigh Anne Thompson both of Canadian Lakes; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren; his siblings Lois, Bud, and Joyce; his best friend Ernie the dog; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents John Ernest and Kathryn Lavina (Lanning) Hoaglin; parents-in-law Almond "Al" and May Calkins; several brothers and sisters; two granddaughters; and one great grandson.
A Memorial in his honor will be held Friday, September 11th, 2015, at 6:00 P.M. at Brigham Funeral Chapel at 9977 W. Howard City-Edmore Rd., Lakeview, MI 48850. A luncheon will follow the memorial, in the banquette room, at 7:00 P.M. There will be a benefit for his widow on October 3rd, 2015 at the Lakeview VFW Hough-Pontius Post, 8968 N. Greenville Rd., Lakeview, MI 48850.
