Kim Gary Willmer, Sr.'s Obituary
Big Rapids - Kim Gary Willmer, Sr., 58, of Big Rapids passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born February 20, 1956, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Raymond S. and Fujiyama "Evelyn" (Oyama) Willmer, Following his mother's death in 1966, he moved to Big Rapids where he has lived since. Kim graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1974. While in high school, he worked at the Yankee Boy Restaurant, which became Mr. Fables. He then became the assistant manager at Little Caesar's Pizza, while also working at Kroger Grocery then Hamady & Carters Grocery. In 1990, he joined the Frito-Lay Co., and was an area route salesman for 24 years. Kim was an avid comic collector since he was eight years old. He has ridden motorcycles since his teen years, and attended the Blessing of the Bikes in Baldwin every year. He enjoyed riding his bicycle on the Rails-to-Trails to Reed City and back, and loved mowing his lawn. Kim was known as the "Limbo King of the Alibi" in his earlier years, but is most remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. On September 13, 1980, he married Mary A. Borstler, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Kim G.Willmer, Jr., of Big Rapids, Tracey Willmer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Adam Willmer of Grand Rapids; a grandson Phoenix; 2 sisters, Linda (Bill) Connell of Reed City, Joanne (Richard) Cerefice of Hayward, CA; brother-in-law Bruce (Pam) Borstler of Big Rapids; sister-in-law Joanne (Scott) Davis of Reed City; nieces and nephews Billy (Bridget) Connell, KimiSue (Doug) Worrall, Jeremy (Lacey), Aaron, Megan, Kyle, and Stephanie Borstler, and Brian (Laurie) and Paul (Courtney) Cerefice. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the United Church of Big Rapids, with Rev. Jon Fleming officiating. Spring burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Kim's family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Mohnke Funeral Home and (Monday) from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and at the church prior to services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation,P.O. Box 374, Birmingham, MI 48012 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
