Kyu Hui Perialas' Obituary
Big Rapids - Kyu Hui Perialas, 85, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 26, 2021 at her home holding her husband's hand.
She was born February 28, 1935, in Nagaski, Japan, the daughter of Toe Ga and Po Een (Shin) Yi.
On September 19, 1966, Kyu Hui married Stephen Perialas, who was stationed with the U.S. Air Force in South Korea. They moved to Big Rapids in 1973, where they have lived since.
Kyu Hui was a survivor, and those that knew her knew she was tough. She survived the A-Bomb dropped on Nagasaki as a young Korean girl living in Japan, survived tuberculosis, the Korean War, and being married to Steve for 50 years! She was in the process of surviving lung cancer for more than a year until the cancer had other ideas and decided to spread into her lymphatic system.
Kyu Hui is survived by her husband Steve; two sons, James (Carrie) of Roscommon, and Robert (Taylor Heins) of Eagle, Mi; a daughter Robin (John) Webb of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, Jordyn, Casey, Bailey, Nick, Jacob, Kim, Jessica, and Henry; great-grandson Mylo; former daughter-in-law Carol Crain-Perialas; and her sister Kyu Sun (Su Jun) An.
Memorial services are being planned for later this year. Memorial contributions in her name may be made for Spectrum Health Hospice. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Share a memory or express condolences at mohnkefuneralhome.com.
