Larry Thomas Gilbert's Obituary
Lakeview - Larry Thomas Gilbert, age 86, passed away unexpectantly at his home in Lakeview on Friday, July 14, 2023. He was born in Alma on December 16, 1936, the son of John and Athol (Knickerbocker) Gilbert. Larry was raised in the Ithaca area before moving to Lakeview as a teenager. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1954 and continued his studies at Michigan State University, completing a short course in agriculture. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Saxton in Lakeview on August 5, 1955. He was self employed in farming and as a realtor with Millard's and Coldwell Banker Reality before his retirement in 2017. Larry held positions of Trustee and Supervisor on The Cato Township Board for more than 40 years. He also served as chairman on the Lakeview District Fire Department Board for many years. Larry was honored to receive the Lakeview Area Community Fund Quality of Life Achievement Award in November of 2021. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling with Dolores in their motor home, and spending time with his family, especially for Sunday breakfast. Larry is survived by and will forever be missed by his best friend and wife, Dolores of Lakeview; 3 children, Cathy Ackerson of Lakeview, Julie (Ron) Menard of North Dakota, Gary (Julie) Gilbert of Nashville, MI; 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Young, Katie (Mike) Burgess, John Menard, Aaron Gilbert, Nick Gilbert, Garrett Pearson; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Sydney; brother-in-law, Lynn (Edna) Saxton; sister-in-law, Jane Feutz; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Rick Ackerson; brother, John (Margaret) Gilbert; brother-in-law, Lum Feutz; nephew, Danny Gilbert. A celebration of life visitation in Larry's honor will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview.
