Larry Russell Potter's Obituary
Big Rapids - Larry R. Potter, 79, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at his residence. He was born April 1, 1938, in Big Rapids, the son of Lloyd and Lucille (Noffke) Potter, and was a life time resident here. Following his graduation from Big Rapids High School, Larry served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge, Larry returned to Big Rapids, and married Phyllis (nee Pitts). For over 25 years, he worked as the motor pool mechanic for the City of Big Rapids, retiring in 1993. Larry was a longtime active member of the Big Rapids Eagles Aerie #2535, and was an avid bowler as well. His wife Phyllis preceded Larry in death in 2012. He is survived by his sister Bonnie Jorgensen of Barryton; special friends Cathy and Jim Fountain, and their children Emily and Robert; and friend Van Johnson. Larry was also preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn and his wife Betsy Potter, and brother-in-law Paul Jorgensen. A memorial gathering will be held from noon to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Big Rapids Eagles Lodge, with Bill Routley officiating services. Luncheon to be served at 1:00 p.m. His cremains will be interred in the Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Larry's name may be made for Spectrum Health Hospice, with envelopes available at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
