Larry Adam Roman's Obituary
Big Rapids Larry A. Roman, Age 70, of Big Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. He was born March 4, 1939 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Adam and Frances (Serbal) Roman. Larry graduated from Johnstown Pennsylvania High School in 1957 then onto University of Pittsburgh Johnstown on a basketball scholarship. He later transferred on scholarship to Bucknell University where he played Division I Basketball and earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, following college Larry played Semi-Pro Basketball. His professional positions included Chemical Design Engineer at Celanese Corporation, Cumberland, Maryland, District Manager and Manager of manufacturing at U.S. Steel, Pittsburgh, PA and Circleville, OH, Financial Consultant for Pliant Plastics, Muskegon, MI. He moved to Big Rapids for Chrysler as CEO of Evart Products which was then acquired by Textron. He then served as director of Manufacturing and International Technology for Textron at Trenton Chemical, Sandusky Vinyl and Michigan City Plastics, retiring in 1999. Larry served an eight year term on the Ferris State University Board of Trustees as member and chairman. He was a lifetime member of Whos Who Worldwide Registry of Business Leaders, a member of Bucknell Engineering and Alumi Association Board of Directors, Education Committee and Automotive Marketing Council of the Societies of Plastics Industries. Larry served on boards of directors of numerous service, Chamber of Commerce, church, hospital and chartiable organizations. He was a lifelong avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Above all, Larry was a follower and man of Jesus Christ. He and Jacqueline (Korber) were married April 20th, 1963 in Johnstown, PA. Larry is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, three children, Robyn (Ken) Saladin, Larry Jr. (Shelly) Roman, and Scott (Angie) Roman. Eight grandchildren: Paige, Alex, Luke, Anna, Bradlee, Douglas, Chelsea and Adam. Two great grandchildren: Thatcher and Bela. Brother Dave (Pat) Roman and Joanne (Peter) Todorich. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Frances (Serbal) Roman and grandchildren Marshall Lee Hawkins and Courtney Marie (Hawkins) Conley. Funeral Services will be Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Larrys family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Highland View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran School or miCares Animal Rescue Fund.
