Laura Jean Schwandt's Obituary
Lakeview - Laura Jean Schwandt, age 88, of Lakeview, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Margaret Meadows in Blanchard, Michigan. Laura was born December 4, 1928 in Lakeview, the daughter of Earl and Alma (Mitchell) Stephens. Laura was raised in Lakeview and graduated from Lakeview High School. On August 2, 1946, she married the love of her life of 64 years, Raymond Beryl Schwandt at the Congregational Church of Christ in Lakeview.
Laura was employed as a Bookkeeper for Lakeview Community Schools over 10 years. She also worked for the Lakeview Area News, Lakeview Pharmacy, and the J&J Dime Store. Laura was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakeview. Laura enjoyed knitting, crafts, reading, crocheting, golfing when younger, and she helped on the family farm. After her son, Richard, passed, Laura, alongside her husband Raymond, enjoyed traveling to Drummond Island for two weeks every year and to Florida for six months a year for 25 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, her great-grandbabies in particular.
Laura will be missed by three children James (Merriann) Schwandt of Canadian Lakes, Barb (Gale) Rodarmer of Mecosta, and Kathy LeFever of Six Lakes; 8 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; 5 siblings Dorothy Rasmussen of Trufant, Mirth Brockway of Lakeview, Clare (Maryanna) Stephens of Grand Haven, Carl (Sandy) Stephens of Lake City, and Wesley (Elaine) Stephens of South Haven; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Schwandt on April 4, 2011; one son Richard Schwandt; her parents Earl and Alma Stephens; two brother-in-law's John Rasmussen, and Robert Brockway.
Funeral services to celebrate Laura's life has been scheduled for Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm with visitation two hours prior to the service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakeview with Pastor Steven Voelker officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Memorial contributions in Laura's memory can be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakeview.
