Laurie Lee Carroll's Obituary
Big Rapids - Laurie L. Carroll, CMSgt (Retired), 61, of Big Rapids, passed away, Thursday, July 8, 2021.
She was born April 23, 1960, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Robert and Gertrude (Schroeder) Carroll. Laurie attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1978. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Laurie served in the U.S. Air Force in the Logistics/Transportation Management field from 1980 to 2006, rising to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Her career took her all around the world including bases in England, Turkey, and Australia; a clandestine operation in Baghdad, Iraq packaging scud missiles for the U.N.; and stateside assignments in Michigan, Alaska, Virginia, Utah, Missouri, Florida, and Washington D.C.
Following her retirement from the Air Force, Laurie worked as a Logistics Unit Chief/Special Projects Coordinator for the FBI in Washington D.C. until May 2020 when she retired (again) and moved to her home on Horsehead Lake.
Laurie was an avid Tiger fan and loved all Michigan pro and college sports, but her greatest love was her family.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James, and her sister Kim. She is survived by her stepmother Dorothy Carroll; her siblings, Sue (Dave) Truog, Roger (Tammy) Carroll, Doug (Kathy) Carroll, Mary (Larry) Collins, and Beth Carroll; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; special cousin Mindy Britton; and dear lifelong friends, Cindy Lutzke, Sue Ostion, and Zonna Heck.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2021, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Roger Mackie officiating. Burial will follow in Highland View Cemetery, with military honors provided by American Legion Post #98 Honor Guard. Laurie's family will greet friends at the Mohnke Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, and prior to services on Monday at the church. A luncheon will follow at Big Rapids Eagles Aerie #2535.
