LaVern A. Kardos' Obituary
Evart LaVern A. Kardos, 74, of Evart, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 19, 1933, in Detroit, the son of Alex and Ann (Plush) Kardos. As a child, he moved with his family to the Bitely area, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951. During the Korean Conflict, LaVern served with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he returned to the area, and on August 6, 1955, he married Dorothy H. Battle of Paris. As a self-employed entrepreneur, LaVern worked in a variety of businesses, including timbering. He also owned and operated an auto repair shop, and enjoyed trucking and working on them. He was a member of the Big Rapids AmVets Post #1941. LaVern is survived by his wife Dorothy; a son Gene and special friend Penny Bravic of Hersey; a daughter Teresa Chambers of Fenton; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Rose Drabina of Sparta, Betty (Guy) Wright of Grant, and Emma Edwards of Detroit; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Larry and Kenny, and a brother John Greybeihl. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Evart, with Father Joe Fix celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Anns Cemetery in Paris. LaVerns family will greet friends at the church after 10:00 a.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made for Hospice of Michigan or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church on Monday, or at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where arrangements were entrusted.
