Lawrence Lee Taylor's Obituary
Edmore-Our precious Daddy, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, Lawrence Lee Taylor, age 93, fell asleep in death on Wednesday afternoon, November 8, 2023, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lawrence was born on the old Taylor farm near Lakeview on June 20, 1930, to Rowatt and Hazel (Farrand) Taylor. He was the middle child of 7 siblings. During the depression the family moved frequently, resulting in attendance at many different country schools and later graduating from Blanchard High School in 1949. He farmed with his father and brother after graduation until being drafted by the U.S. Army. During that time, he met his sister Grace's college roommate, Mildred "Elaine" Buzek. After a whirlwind romance of two months, they were married on July 22, 1952, during his four-week military leave before being sent overseas. They then spent the next 14 months apart as he proudly served his country in the Korean War earning the rank of sergeant. Their marriage was blessed with one child born on his birthday, which was also Father's Day of 1954. Not one single birthday was ever spent apart between him and his daughter. His life was filled with good times, pitching for men's softballs teams, bowling, playing horseshoes, touring with an Old Car Club, square dancing, hunting, listening to country music and being a helper to many. He was a proud member of the Six Lakes VFW and never tired of telling his war stories to anyone willing to listen. As a baptized member of the Blanchard Church of God, he served as a Deacon and was a founding member of the United By Faith Christian Church in Wyman, MI. He retired from Hitachi Magnetics after working for 32 years during which time he also worked 12 years as the sexton for the Decker Cemetery (digging all graves by hand). He was a loving companion and caregiver to his wife, a devoted father, and a proud-to-a-fault grandpa and great-grandpa. Attendance at all grandchildren events was a top priority for both he and Elaine, which he continued to the very end at age 93 with the aid of his "rabbit cane".Lawrence is survived by his daughter, June (Dan) Bush of Edmore; grandsons, Davie (Kathy) Bush, Jamie (Jelanie) Bush; granddaughter, Bobbi Jo (Brian) Kieff; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Braylie, and Kyler Bush, Kiera, Avery and Lexi Bush, Brady, Brooklyn and Blaine Kieff; sister, Grace; brother, Marion; 2 brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Rowatt and Hazel; wife, Elaine who passed in 2019 after nearly 67 years of marriage; brothers Paul, Mac and Deane; sister, Pauline.Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore.
