Leonard Dann Worth's Obituary
Big Rapids - Leonard D. Worth, 90, of Big Rapids, passed away, Monday, October 8, 2018, at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital.
He was born December 19, 1927, in Reed City, the son of Daniel and Ruby (Skellinger) Worth, and lived in Big Rapids most of his life. In 1945, Leonard joined the Army Air Corp, serving during the Occupation in Japan until 1947.
Following his discharge, Leonard returned to the area, worked at Hall's East-side Texaco, and then was a delivery man for Good Housekeeping Shops. In 1964 he began his career as a firefighter for the Big Rapids Fire Department, retiring as a Shift Captain in 1989 after 25 years of service.
Leonard was a life member of the Morley American Legion Post #554. He was also an avid outdoors-man who loved to camp, fish, and hunt, and enjoyed the occasional visit to the casino.
On June 30, 1951 he married Ilah Jean Lintemuth, who preceded him in death in 1997. Leonard is survived by 2 daughters, Carla Jo Worth of Morley and Gail (Ed) Ellsworth of Stanwood; many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was also preceded in death by his brother Charlie and sister Clara Fuller.
Leonard's family will greet friends from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, October 12, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Private burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mecosta. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to a charity of your choice.
