Leslie R Johnson's Obituary
Leslie Robert Johnson, age 99, of Greenville, passed away September 22, 2016 at Lakeview Terrace in Lakeview, Michigan. Leslie was born June 21, 1917 in Lyons, Michigan, the son of Charles Franklin and Amelia Catherine (Mills) Johnson. He was raised in Lyons and Ionia graduating from Ionia High School in 1936. He served his country honorably in the US Army in World War II. He was a world traveler.
Leslie married Doris Palmer on May 10th, 1940; and together, they raised two children, Janice Kay and Linda Sue. Leslie married his second wife, Caroline Petersen, in 1964.
Leslie lived in Orleans where he raised his family and many years in Greenville. He also lived in Winter Haven, FL with his second wife.
Leslie was employed at Federal Mogul Corporation in Greenville, Michigan and retired from the Engineering Department in 1981.
His many hobbies included golfing, gardening and he had beautiful flowers. He was very active in the church and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
Leslie is survived in death by one daughter Janice (Richard) Seigel of Coral; Grandchildren Valerie (Jerry) Arnett, Mary (Don) Harrington, Matthew (Marika) Seigel, Susan (Dave) Bowen, Eric (Denise) Shaw, Kent Shaw; 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law Robert (Betty) Shaw; sisters Marjorie Stine of New York, Joan Garland of Belding, and Catherine Higbee of Ionia; sister-in-law Donna Johnson of Orleans; many nieces and nephews.
Leslie was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Sue Shaw in 1977; his first wife Doris Palmer Johnson in 1963; and second wife Caroline Petersen Johnson in 2008; two brothers Kenneth Johnson and Paul Johnson; and sisters Mary Hackett, and Barbara Grifith.
According to the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service has been scheduled at Orleans Cemetery in Orleans, Michigan on September 30, 2016 at 11:00 am with a visitation and luncheon afterwards at the Winter Inn, 100 N. Lafayette St., Greenville, MI 48838.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions in his memory are asked to consider Hospice of Michigan, 400 Perry Ave, Big Rapids, MI 49307.
