Lillian Dorothy Smith's Obituary
Lillian Dorothy Smith, age 96, of Lakeview, Michigan, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Lakeview Terrace. She was born on August 11, 1919 in Ionia, Michigan, the daughter of John and Freda (Kocek) Stahl. Lillian was raised in Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School. She attended several continuing education courses at Montcalm Community College. Lillian married Charles Doyle Smith on November 22, 1942, in Southbend, Indiana. She worked for Lakeview's Five and Dime store and the Pickle Factory, however, her most loved job was being a home maker. Lillian enjoyed cooking, crafting, and antiques collecting. She was a member of the Lakeview United Church of Christ, United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship, West Michigan Christian Women's Association, Danish Festival Singers, Michigan Family Extension Association, Big Rapids Antique group, and she was a founding member of Heritage Village (Montcalm Community College Bicentennial Committee).
Lillian will be dearly missed by her children Douglas Doyle Smith of Royal Oak, Terrance Dennis (Gloria Mae) Smith of Novi, and Charlene Denise McCaskey of Saratoga, California; one granddaughter Jennifer Mae (Matthew) Conway of Novi; two great-grandchildren Griffin Emmett Conway age 10 and Reaghan Mae Conway age 7; many friends and her church family.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Charles Doyle Smith in Jan. 1980; her parents John and Freda Stahl; and her sister Geraldine Stahl.
Services for Lillian will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, Michigan, with Pastor Dave England officiating. Visitation for Lillian will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the service at the Congregational United Church of Christ.
