Lloyd "Jim" Alfred Schwandt's Obituary
Lakeview-Lloyd "Jim" Alfred Schwandt, age 95, of Six Lakes passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Spectrum Health Kelsey Long Term Care, surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Lakeview on December 15, 1923, the son of Albert and Hattie (Lutterloh) Schwandt. He was raised in Lakeview and graduated from Lakeview High School with the class of 1942. Jim enlisted in the Army and served his country honorably in the European Theater for 2 years, earning 4 bronze stars and a WWII Victory Medal, among others. Upon returning home, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Jensen on March 22, 1946. Jim owned and operated a gas station and drive-in restaurant on M-46 in Lakeview, and then the grain elevators in Coral, Pierson, Sand Lake and Howard City until 1988. He continued working for the Farmer's Elevator in Lakeview until they closed in 2002. He also owned the 1st Midas Muffler franchise in the state of Michigan. Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father, who loved to travel with Juanita. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, motorhome caravanning and being a fan of the Tigers and Lions. He was a member of the Lakeview VFW Post 3701, the Harrison American Legion and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Jim is survived by his children, Penny (James White) Schwandt of Grand Rapids, Steve (Denise) Schwandt of Six Lakes, Mark (Terri Kain) Schwandt of Six Lakes; grandchildren, John (Marianne) Schwandt, Chris (Jennifer) Schwandt, Becky (Paul) Polaski, Kevin (Samantha) Schwandt, Ronald Schwandt; 15 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and special helpers, Doug and Roxie Poulsen, Gale and Barb Rodamer; and the wonderful staff at Spectrum Health Kelsey Long Term Care.
He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 73 years, Juanita Schwandt; his parents, Albert and Hattie Schwandt; his brothers, Earl "Bill" (Marilyn), Floyd "Pete" (Audrey), Raymond (Jean) Schwandt and one sister, Helen (Robert) Carrick.
A celebration of life for Jim will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakeview with Pastor Alex Sabol officiating. The family will greet friends from 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, October 27 at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview and from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church on Monday.
