Lois Belle Skinner's Obituary
Lois B. Skinner, age 75 of Mecosta, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 30th at New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating. Family will be at the church to greet friends from 2:00 PM to the time of service on Sunday.
Lois was born February 12, 1941, the daughter of Robert and Spicey Lawhorn. After marrying the love of her life, Byron, the two grew their family to include two children.
Lois was an active member of the Order of the Easter Star and New Hope United Methodist church. She would tend to the church garden, prepare luncheons, and help out any other way she could. A very selfless person, Lois never thought twice about her time and energy invested in her church.
Her hobbies would include baking, making egg noodles and goulash, and watching humorous television shows. With the exception of Avatar and Harry Potter, Lois didn’t much care for fantasy movies, but loved anything that could give her a good laugh. Known to be extremely hospitable, frequent guests knew they were better off to take her up on the first offer of a beverage or snack than to be asked ten more times. Family meant everything to Lois and she enjoyed every moment spent with them. A favorite tradition of hers was the Sunday family get-together, which always included a nice home cooked meal.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Mark Skinner and Katrina Wray; sisters, DeLinda Fogerson and Fern Rhodes; grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Matthew, Gracie, Jarod, and Jaydon; great-grandchildren, Mya and Zackery, and her beloved dog, Tobi.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron in 2002; sister, Mary Sue Lawhorn, and brother Wayne Jennings.
Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta. Envelopes will be available at the church.
