Lon C. Green's Obituary
Big Rapids - Lon C. Green, age 71, of Big Rapids passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015. He was born on July 27, 1944 in Murray, Utah, the son of Lamar M. and Patsy R. (Peterson) Green. Lon served in Vietnam as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He earned a PhD degree at Kent State University. Lon moved to Big Rapids in 1985 where he was employed at Ferris State University as the Department Head, Humanities. At the present time, he was a professor in communications. Prior to moving to Big Rapids he was Department Head in Humanities at Lewis University in Joliet, Illinois. Lon served a two year mission in Australia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His personal time was spent with his family or on the golf course. He also enjoyed hockey. He is survived by his wife, Kristine Szot-Green; one son, Michael, at home; two daughters, Kristen Green of Utah and Heather Green of California; two step children, Jessica (Bill) Tokar of Utah and Ryan (Jasmine) Malcolm of Grand Haven; seven grandchildren, Matthew Green, Nadija, Audrey, and Erryn Tokar, Conner, Hayden, and Kloey Malcolm. Also surviving are one sister, Diane Jeffers and one brother, Fred Green as well as several nieces and nephews. Lon was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 1325 Woodward Ave. Big Rapids. His family will greet friends on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Rapids High School Sports Boosters.
