Lorraine Weed's Obituary
Morley- Lorraine Weed, 70, of Morley, a lady of deep faith, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born March 4, 1941, in Caldwell, ID, the daughter of Leo and Dorotha (McVey) Seat. Lorraine moved with her family to Lakeview as a child, and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1959. On June 18, 1960, she married Richard A. Weed, and the couple settled in Morley in 1962, where she had lived since. For several years, Lorraine worked for the Manning Company in Morley, and then was secretary at the Adult Learning Center in Morley for five years. She also owned and operated Lorraines Secretarial Service, and most recently retired from Ferris State University, where she served as the secretary/receptionist in the Personal Counseling Center at the Birkham Health Center. Lorraine was a charter member of Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood, where she served her Lord in a variety of ways, including Church Librarian. She was very active in the United Methodist Women, as former president as well as other positions. Lorraine was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, and was a Big Sister also. She was an avid reader, and she also sent many cards of encouragement as a part of her ministry. Surviving are her husband Dick; two sons, Duane (Brenda) of Howard City; their children Rachel and Bryan, Steven (Lisa) of Stanwood; their children Jessica (Brian), Brittany (Larry), Katie and honorary grandson Ryan Barger along with 6 great-grandchildren; her brother Delbert Seat of St. Joseph; her sister Carol (Tim) Yen of Chicago, IL; 2 godsons, Lucas and Colton Hayes; and many loving family members. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood, with Rev. Dominic Tommy and William Routley officiating. Burial will be in the West Pine Cemetery near Lakeview. Memorial contributions for Lorraines church may be left in care of the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where her family will greet friends today (Tuesday) from 5-8 p.m., and at the church after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
