Louise Marie Shepard's Obituary
Lakeview - Louise Marie (Scholes) Shepard, age 91, of Lakeview passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Lakeview Terrace. Louise was born on July 2, 1934, in Monroe County Illinois to David and Luella (Pfeiffer) Scholes She attended several country grade schools before entering high school. Louise graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1952 New Athens, Illinois high school. After graduation she performed office work for Ralston Purina Company in St. Louis, Missouri. Louise married Arthur Shepard, the love of her life, on October 29, 1955, in Smithton, IL. The couple moved to Tinker Air Base in Midwest City, OK where Art finished his tour of duty in April of 1956. Louise and Art settled in Lakeview, MI, (Art's hometown). Louise worked for the doctors at Kelsey Memorial Hospital and the Lakeview Medical Center from 1956 until her retirement in 1998. Louise and Art raised two daughters, Kathy and Laurie. In 1962 the family built their forever home on Almy Road. Louise loved to entertain, so many family holidays and other events were held there. She was active at Asbury UMC which became New Life UMC. She chaired many committees while involved in the United Methodist Women, teaching Sunday School and helping wherever needed. She co-led Girl Scout troop 150 from Brownies to Junior Scouts. She enjoyed snowmobiling with Art and their friends and neighbors on Gravel Ridge Road. Louise and Art traveled extensively after their retirements, making trips to Hawaii, Washington DC and most of the continental United States. They bought a second home in Florida and spent many years wintering there. Louise also enjoyed family gatherings with siblings, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandsons and great-granddaughter. Louise leaves behind daughters, Kathy Shepard of Greenville, Laurie (Robert) Gansen of Hamilton; grandsons, David Gansen of Lakeview, Daniel (Kassandra) Gansen of Newaygo; great-granddaughter, Everly Ann; sister Diane Harms of Freeburg, IL; great-niece, Lucy Fiedler and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Shepard; parents, David and Luella; sister, Elaine Main; niece, Jennifer Fiedler; stepmother, Laura Lischner Herzog Scholes; stepsiblings, Howard and Willard Herzog and Edith Triefenbach. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Cato Township Cemetery in Lakeview. The family will greet friends on Friday, September 5, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral chapel and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
