Lynn Michael Cook's Obituary
Big Rapids - Lynn Michael Cook, 69, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2021, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
He was born on May 30th, 1952, at Big Rapids Hospital, the son of the late Clifford Lewis Cook, and Margaret Ellen Waldron Cook-Johnson. He grew up in Big Rapids, and graduated from BRHS in 1970.
Lynn was a talented artist, and after high school hoped to become a draftsman and architect. However, he chose instead to answer the call of his country and joined the Navy. He trained at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, and was later stationed in San Diego, California. His sea duty took him to Butler Marine Base, Okinawa. There he served as a medical corpsman assistant to a plastic surgeon at the Battalion Aid Station, providing care to wounded Marines who had been flown directly from the battlefields of Vietnam.
After returning to civilian life, Lynn became a skilled CAD/CAM precision machinist, working at manufacturing plants in Michigan, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and Tennessee, eventually returning to Big Rapids in retirement.
Lynn is survived by his mother, Margaret Johnson of Big Rapids; his siblings David (Marge) Cook of Metamora, IL, Beth Cook (Paul) Everin of Big Rapids, and Steven (Pamela) Cook of Traverse City; his sons Tristan (Sandy) Cook of Belleville, MI and Jacoby Cook of Atlanta, GA; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Lynn's family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Altercare of Big Rapids, as well as the people of Spectrum Health Hospice, for the kind and compassionate care they provided to him in the last months of his life.
Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Share a memory or express condolences at www.mohnkefuneralhome.com.
