Madonna Mary Grady's Obituary
In Loving Memory Madonna Mary Grady - Mecosta
Madonna Mary Grady, born September 10th, 1942, to Norbert Matthews and Lorraine Doll, departed this world on March 8, 2024. Madonna embodied strength, faith, and unwavering compassion throughout her remarkable journey.
A woman of deep conviction, Madonna’s fervent beliefs colored every aspect of her life. Her passion extended beyond words, manifesting in her tireless efforts as a caregiver to her beloved husband, Fred, whom she supported and advocated for with unmatched devotion.
Madonna found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in her love for bird-watching, with a particular fondness for the delicate beauty of hummingbirds. Her green thumb (or lack of) was a testament to her resilience, as she tenaciously tended to her flowers, determined to coax them to bloom despite the persistent challenge of deer.
Feisty and compassionate, Madonna’s spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Whether lending a helping hand to family and friends or offering a listening ear, she approached every interaction with strength and generosity.
Madonna leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to reverberate through the lives of her husband, Fred; her children, Joseph Schafer Jr. and his wife Julia, Teresa Fussman and her husband Jim, Bernadette Schafer, Margie Myers and her husband Roger, Deborah Coe and her husband Mark, Russell Schafer and his wife Julie, Billy Schafer, Keith Grady and his wife Bessie, and Kelly Grady and his significant other Christopher; stepchildren, Doris Grady, Tina Parrish, and Mary Ann Avery and her husband Dave; sister, Della Oberlin and her husband Michael, sister-in-law Carol Matthews wife of Glen Matthews as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Brad Schafer, stepson Fred Grady Jr. and brothers, David and Glen Matthews.
A celebration of Madonna’s life will take place from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Austin Township Hall, offering an opportunity for all who were touched by her to come together in remembrance and gratitude for the blessing of her presence in their lives.
