Mahlon J Herrick's Obituary
Obituary Mahlon J. Herrick, 97 of Holland, MI, formerly of North Port, FL and Big Rapids, MI, died Tuesday, December 17. He was born January 28, 1916 in Harbor Springs, MI. Mr. Herrick taught in several Michigan public high schools for 14 years before joining the administrative staff at Ferris State University, where he served as registrar for 23 years before retiring in 1979. He was an active member of the Lions Club for many years, a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and for three years was a Colony Governor of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in SW Florida. During World War II, Mr. Herrick served with the 91st Infantry Division in Italy where he was awarded the Bronze Star and a battlefield commission. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Myrtle (1989) and siblings Frances Czerkie, Roberta Olk, Vern Herrick, and friend, Mary Elliott. Survivors include three children: Michael (Jane), Herbster, WI, Thomas (Kathy), Holland, MI, and a daughter Mary Kay Farrell (Scott), Fremont, OH: seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Big Rapids, MI at 11:30 am, Sunday, Dec. 22 and interment will be at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Herrick Endowment Fund at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 726 Fuller St., Big Rapids, MI 49307
