Marcus Theodore VanAtta's Obituary
Edmore- Marcus Theodore VanAtta, age 77, of Vestaburg passed away at Schnepps Senior Care on Monday, June 27, 2022. He was born on September 17, 1944, in Alma, the son of Floyd and Lois (Brisboy) VanAtta. Marcus was raised in the Blanchard area where he attended school graduating in 1964. He met the love of his life, Carolyn (Bywater) VanAtta, who was a childhood friend. They married May 23, 2013, in Stanton. Marcus served in the Michigan National Guard from 1965-1971, reaching Sp4 before he was honorably discharged. He was employed with General Motors in Lansing for over 30 years. Marc enjoyed loading his own ammunition and would often compete in shooting competitions. He also enjoyed reading manuals and informational material. Marcus loved John Deer tractors and would often restore or repair them. He was a member of the American Legion Post 452 in Stanton as well the Isabella Sportsman Club. His kids and grandchildren were everything to him. He loved giving a helping hand and feeling needed. Marc enjoyed helping his son, Mark, on his farm.
Marcus will be missed by his children, Kevin (Chantal) VanAtta of Elsie, Mark (Margie) VanAtta of Laingsburg, Mindy (Dave) Ostrander of Henderson; step-children, Matt (Anna) Hoover of Vestaburg, Rodney (Darlene) Hoover of Six Lakes; grandchildren, Luke (Trina) VanAtta, Jake (Kaylee) VanAtta, Jessica (Jake) Hehrer, Shanelle (Mike) Hehrer, Kali (Cody) Schlagel, Colton (Rachel) VanAtta, Cameron VanAtta, Carissa VanAtta, Lindsey, Whitney, Mallory Hoover; great grandchildren, Chase, Karly, Cole Schlegel, Clifton VanAtta; brother, Mike (Judy) VanAtta of Modesto, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lois; and sister, Mildred "Milly" VanAtta.
A memorial service for Marcus will take place at Duplain Church of Christ 5565 E Colony Rd, St Johns, MI 48879. The family will greet friends and family starting at 10:30 AM following a service at 11 AM July 09, 2022. A luncheon will follow the service.
