Margaret Louise Harkness' Obituary
Edmore- Margaret Louise Harkness, age 92, of Edmore, passed away at Hathaway Hills in Greenville on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. She was born in Edmore on March 5, 1930, to Bernice (Clousson) and Charles Wood. Margaret was raised in Edmore and would meet her sweetheart, Kenneth Harkness, while attending high school there. She later attended college at Central Michigan University and there started dating Kenneth. On Valentine's Day 1950 Kenneth and Margaret were married at the Edmore United Methodist Church. Margaret would go on to graduate with both a bachelor's and master's degree. She became an elementary school teacher, teaching at Winn, Six Lakes, and Montabella schools where she retired from in the early 90s. Margaret was very active in the schools even after her retirement. She coached basketball, donated blood, helped with the literacy program, and volunteered for the Potato Festival. She was known for her community involvement with the Woman's Club, Eastern Stars, both Girl and Boy Scouts, and many years of membership at the church where she led Sunday school. When Margaret was not volunteering, she enjoyed things like playing the organ, square dancing, quilting, sewing, golfing, and staying fit with long walks and bike rides.Margaret will be missed by her children, James (Brigida) Harkness of CA, Don Harkness of Blanchard, Jon Harkness of Edmore, Charles Harkness of Las Vegas, NV; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-grandson, Brantley James Harkness; a brother, David Wood; sisters, Charlene Wood, Janet Keeler, and Kathleen Wood.A funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore. The family will receive friends from 4-8pm on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore. Contributions can be made in Margaret's memory to the Faith United Methodist Church.
