Mariann Hahn's Obituary
Big Rapids - Mariann Hahn, 76, of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at the Brook Retirement Community in Big Rapids, after spending the day surrounded by family and friends.
She was born September 15, 1944, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Lester and Pearl (Shoptaw) Tindle, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1962. In 1963, she married Albert "Keith" Hahn, and they lived on their farm west of Big Rapids for 56 years.
For over 20 years, Mariann worked in the business office at Ferris State University. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Big Rapids, where she sang in the choir. Mariann was also a member and past president of the Mecosta County Historical Society, and co-authored a book about one-room schoolhouses in Mecosta County entitled "Blackboards and Outhouses".
Mariann had a keen interest in Anna Howard Shaw, and performed a one-woman play about her. She played the hammer dulcimer with local groups and co-produced a music CD. Mariann was a seamstress, and had an amazing collection of antique toy sewing machines and thimbles.
For 30 years, Keith and Mariann wintered in Gulf Shores, AL, and spent 16 summers working on Mackinac Island.
Mariann is survived by her husband Keith; their son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Anita Hahn; grandchildren Wesley (Anna), Andrew, Lisa, and Edris (Emma); special exchange student Lorena; one brother Dale Tindle; her sister-in-law Darlene (Ken - deceased) Hahn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by their son Kurt in 1991, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 20, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeremy Wicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Van Gilder Cemetery in Big Rapids Township. Mariann's family will greet friends at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Thursday, August 19, from 6-8 p.m., and at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Her family also asks that masks be worn during these times.
