Marie Ruby Starks' Obituary
Marie Starks, 89, of Six Lakes, Michigan, went to be with her Lord on December 27, 2025. She was born December 27, 1936, in Remus, Michigan, the daughter of Floyd and Helen Lenon. Marie married Philip Starks on June 18, 1955, in Remus, to whom she was happily married for over 63 years.
Marie prioritized her role as a homemaker, caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Whether preparing wonderful breakfasts, especially pancakes for her grandchildren, baking or canning fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the Starks' garden, Marie diligently served her family by maintaining a happy home with delicious food for all. Marie's work at home was seasoned with melodies of Christian music as she sang along with the music of Family Life Radio.
When not working at home, Marie invested her energy in church-related ministries. In recent years, she was a faithful member of the Edmore First Church of God.
This followed several years in which she served as a Sunday School teacher at the Remus Church of God.
Her desire to help others led Marie to serve alongside Philip at God's Helping Hands, a ministry that provides food and clothing to needy families in the area. She also served in the kitchen at Camp Barakel, a Christian camp in northern Michigan.
For many years, she also served the community at the Six Lakes polling place and at the Six Lakes Depot Museum. In all her activities, Marie Starks demonstrated a desire to please the Lord and be a good citizen in her community.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Sue (Pat) Gallinger of Mt. Pleasant, Cindy (Vic) Anderson of Mesquite, TX, and her son, Jeff (Connie) Starks of Shepherd. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her sisters, Sandy Kelly of Blanchard, Elaine (Elwyn) MacDonald of Weidman, her brother, Art (Pam) Lenon of Remus, many sisters/brothers-in-law, niece s, and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, her parents, three sisters: June, Jeannine, twin sister, Margie, and one brother, Gene.
A funeral service to honor Marie’s life will be held at noon on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Edmore First Church of God with Pastor Kelly Munger officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes.
