In loving memory of Mary Kay Bookey – Big Rapids, MI
Mary Kathryn Bookey, born on March 9, 1945, bid farewell to this world on January
30, 2024. A dedicated employee, she contributed years of service to Old Kent Bank in
Big Rapids and Grand Rapids until her well-deserved retirement.
A proud graduate of Big Rapids High School in 1963, Mary Kay’s childhood was filled with
joyous trips to Silver Lake with her family. Her zest for life extended to her love of travel,
with Disney World holding a special place in her heart. Crafting, reading, and showering
her nieces and nephews with affection were among her cherished pastimes.
Mary Kay was an unwavering Michigan State University fan, finding joy in watching football
games. Her quiet demeanor and caring nature endeared her to family and friends alike.
A woman of great sweetness, Mary Kay was an active member of the United Church of Big
Rapids.
Her close bonds with cousins and profound love for her nieces and nephews were
testaments to the depth of her devotion to family. Mary Kay leaves behind her legacy of
warmth, kindness, and a heart overflowing with love to her nieces and nephew, Lora
Baker, Steven (Amber) Baker and Lisa Baker; brother-in-law, David Baker, and
numerous cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Clifford and Suanne Bookey, and sister Nancy Baker.
In lieu of flowers friends may direct memorial contributions to the Osceola County
Animal Shelter in honor of Mary Kay’s beloved cat babies she had over the years.
