Mary Lou was born on January 24, 1929 in Remus, the daughter of Isidore and Mabel (Matzen) Baumann. She married Edward Fries on January 12, 1952, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus. As members of St. Conrad’s in Melvindale and St. Ann’s in Frankfort, many long-lasting friendships were formed. Some of her many talents would include playing both the organ and piano (which she started at the early age of seven), singing, cooking, and knitting afghans and Christmas stocking, which she gave to everyone including her doctor. Aside from taking care of her family, Mary Lou also worked as a church secretary.
Talented, compassionate, supportive, and always full of compliments were words used to describe Mary Lou.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Ed; three sons, Edward (Patty), Dan (Barb) and Bill (Marilyn); one brother, Dan (Carol) Baumann; one sister, Joann Dorr; four granddaughters, Colleen, Deanna, Holly and Marcy; two sisters-in-law, Mary Baumann and Joyce Baumann-Natzel; brother-in-law, Tom (Rose) Fries; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Isidore “Sonny” and Keith Baumann and one brother-in-law, George Dorr.
In lieu of flowers and for those who wish to honor Mary Lou in a special way, please consider a donation to St. Michael’s School, envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
